Director of the University Administration (Kanzler) – Jens Apitz

Responsibilities
The Kanzler is the director of the university administration. He is responsible for financial and personnel affairs, construction and renovation planning as well as legal matters and other administrative issues. As the Family Affairs Representative of the University of Konstanz, Jens Apitz is especially committed to making research, career and family compatible with one another. By virtue of office, the Kanzler is a member of the Rectorate, the Senate, the Committee on Research (AFF), the Committee on Communication and Information (AKI), the Committee on Curricular Affairs and Life-Long Learning (ALW) and the Equal Opportunity Council.

Jens Apitz is a member of the joint working groups of the managing directors of student services and university chancellors, and he is a member of the continuing education working group. He is also a member of the board of trustees of the German National Association for Student Affairs, the Board of Directors of the Seezeit Bodensee Student Services and of the Round Table for “Heads of University Management & Administration Network in Europe” (HUMANE).

Short bio
Jens Apitz has been Kanzler (chancellor) of the University of Konstanz since 1999. He is a legal expert and economist: He studied law at the Universities of Marburg and Tübingen. He completed a supplementary course of study in law at the German University of Administrative Sciences in Speyer during his law traineeship. Afterwards, he finished a study programme for working professionals in business economics at the Württembergische Verwaltungs- und Wirtschaftsakademie (academy for administration and economics in Baden Wuerttemberg).

Before his time in Konstanz, Jens Apitz worked as a legal advisor in the legal department and department of construction planning and properties at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen. Later, he headed the academic formalities department and the academic affairs division. In between, he worked as a legal consultant at the department of medicine in the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts Baden-Württemberg (MWK).

Jens Apitz volunteered as an honorary judge at the Arbeitsgericht L?rrach (employment tribunal L?rrach). Currently, he acts as legal assessor for the disciplinary senate of the Verwaltungsgerichtshof Baden-Württemberg (administrative court Baden-Wuerttemberg).
