Covid-19 travel warnings and safety information

• Before you travel, please find out about the current security situation in your destination country from the Federal Foreign Office. You can also subscribe to the Federal Foreign Office newsletter or install the Safe Travel app.
• Emergency number for the Federal Foreign Office: +49 3018 17-0. The switchboard is available 24 hours a day. They will put you through to the responsible department and also help you outside of the regular office hours.

Risk assessment

Before staff members can travel and work in countries and regions with special health and geopolitical risks, their supervisors must carry out a corresponding risk assessment.

There is no required form for doing so, although the university provides template forms. It is important that supervisors inform themselves ahead of time about the possible risks and share this information with their employees/staff.

These risks and possible countermeasures (rules of conduct, precautionary measures such as vaccinations) should be recorded in writing.

You can create a risk assessment, for example, by using a traffic light model.

If you plan to travel to countries with an increased health risk, i.e. to countries between 30° north and 30° south latitude and especially in the subtropics and tropics, you must take preventative occupational health measures!Please contact the in-house physician, Dr Heike Strauss, for guidance.

The company medical certificate can only be issued by tropical medicine specialists or in-house physicians.

Makes sure to check your vaccination status well before you travel:

Which vaccinations are necessary?
Plan enough time for full vaccination protection before you travel.
You often need up to 3 doses over a period of up to 6 weeks for full protection.

Clarify the entry requirements for the country you will be visiting, such as HIV test, yellow fever vaccination, medical certificates for medication.

Make copies of important documents

Copy or scan important documents - passport, tickets, booking confirmations, etc. Give a trustworthy person (e.g. a family member) one copy and keep another for yourself (or email it to yourself).

The types of plugs used to connect electrical appliances and lights to a power source vary depending on the country.

You can purchase the right plug adapter for your destination country in advance from an electronics store, e.g. at Mediamarkt, larger department stores or on the Internet. Plug adapters are also offered at the airport on departure or in the destination country, but usually at higher prices.
